Midwife & Owner of Journey Birth Center

Amber is a certified professional midwife through the North American Registry of Midwives and licensed midwife in Texas and has a Master of Science in Advanced Midwifery Practice from Anglia Ruskin University. With an education as a midwife and background as a doula and childbirth educator, as well as  mom of 7 (yes, seven) children, she brings a wealth of childbirth knowledge to the table.  Amber’s 7 children were all natural births with midwives; each was a very different yet equally sacred experience—one was even born in a third world country with a missionary midwife.  The tender support given to her during each birth ignited a desire to serve women through their journey of childbirth as a midwife herself.  She believes in women’s bodies and their ability to give birth the way it was designed.  She also believes in a woman’s right to decide how and where she wants to give birth, be encouraged in that choice and given every opportunity to make it happen as she desires in the healthiest, safest way possible.  She also believes in informed consent and being an informed consumer—every couple has the right to be educated about birth and to make their own decisions based on information and facts.

Amber is married to Weston, who serves as a pastor of a local church.  Before moving back to the USA, they served as missionaries in Egypt for 5 years.  Amber also has birth experience interning at a missions birth clinic in the Philippines for impoverished women, and has visited birth centers in Haiti and Madagascar.

"It is her heart’s desire to journey with couples through their own unique birth experiences, offering encouragement and support to achieve the best, safest, most comfortable and positive experience possible."

Amber's Training & Experience

In 2012, Amber began her midwifery academics and in 2013 began her first internship in the Philippines where she trained at a birth center for impoverished women.  In 2014, she and her family returned to the USA where she began birth assisting with midwives while continuing her midwifery academic training.  Amber also became a birth doula and assisted women both in and out of hospital births while continuing to birth assist and train with local midwives in home birth and birth center settings.  She also became a certified Birth Boot Camp instructor.  Amber completed her clinical requirements to open her own private practice in January, 2017.  She has a Master of Science degree in Advanced Midwifery Practice from Anglia Ruskin University and maintains certification with the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support and CPR for healthcare professionals (AHA BLS), and in neonatal resuscitation (AHA/AAP NRP) and has attended over 700 births since 2012.

Amber is a certified clinical preceptor for The National College of Midwifery and Mercy in Action College of Midwifery to facilitate clinical training for the student midwives working on their degrees. In addition, she has completed the following courses and workshops among many others: Birth Support as Disaster ReliefGlobal Midwifery: Listen First, Suturing for Midwives, Global Midwifery Skills, Venipuncture and IV skills, Cultural Competency and Respect in the Provision of Maternity CareTwins, Breeches, and ECV; Resolving Shoulder Dystocia; Expect the Unexpected: Midwives Handling Complications in Out of Hospital SettingsHelping Babies Breathe; and many others.

Hope, CPM, LM

Staff Midwife

Hope has always been fascinated with pregnancy and birth from a young age and decided that she would pursue a career in midwifery and graduated from the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program. Her heart is to see every birthing woman feel involved and in charge of her own maternity journey. Before becoming a midwife, Hope became a licensed cosmetologist and still enjoys providing cosmetology services to the community as a fun side gig. She enjoys knitting, crocheting, Zumba, and spending time with her dog when she is not at the clinic for appointments or births. She has a supportive partner and is looking forward to having babies of her own someday (which she plans to birth with midwives, of course!). She maintains certification with the American Heart Association in BLS for healthcare professionals, as well as certification in Neonatal Resuscitation with American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP NRP).

Rachel, CPM, LM, BsM

Staff Midwife

Rachel is a certified professional midwife through NARM and licensed in Texas. With a long background in birth work and midwifery education, one of her favorite things about being a midwife is being able to walk alongside families through one of the most important times in their lives–helping them to realize that they are capable, and that they have what it takes to bring forth and nurture new life.

Rachel is married to Adam, who is a programmer in educational software. Together they have four children. As a family, they have spent much of their time traveling and trotting the globe; they feel the Lord has given them “nomad” hearts in that they have ministered, visited, and lived in 10 different countries worldwide. Rachel loves to meet new people and looks forward to meeting you!

Rachel was born into the birth world in 2010, when she became a certified birth doula. She worked as a birth assistant in two of the most prominent birth centers in Orange County, CA. She became well versed in hospital, birth center, and home birth practices and had the extraordinary opportunity of welcoming hundreds of new lives into the world.

In 2015, Rachel and her family packed up and moved to the Philippines where she began her education, ministry, and work as a midwife. While abroad, Rachel had the chance to practice at two very busy maternity clinics.

After 2.5 years in Asia, it was time to move back to America. Rachel completed her stature licensure to practice in the USA. She worked at a birth practice in Arizona until recent adventures brought her family to Texas.

Rachel is a graduate of both Newlife International School of Midwifery and National College of Midwifery. She holds a BA in Cross Cultural Communications from Bethany Global University and a BSM in Midwifery. She maintains a certificate with the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support for healthcare professionals, as well as a certificate with the American Academy of Pediatrics in neonatal resuscitation (AAP NRP).

Kassidy, CPM, LM

Staff Midwife

Kassidy first began her career in healthcare as an EMT working on anabulance for 3 years and then as a surgical recovery technician in a hospital. Her passion for helping women in labor, along with her own birth experiences, led her to become a certified doula and then pursued her degree in midwifery. She studied at Mercy In Action College of Midwifery while completing all clinical requirements at Journey Birth Center. One of her favorite things about this careerfield is performing meaningful work to improve the health outcomes of mothers and their babies. She is also a certified lactation counselor and childbirth educator and maintains current certification with the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support for healthcare professionals (AHA BLS), as well as a certificate with the American Academy of Pediatrics in neonatal resuscitation (AAP NRP).

Kassidy is married to an Air Force veteran and they have three children together. Kassidy is a Colorado native, but spent several years in Arizona and Idaho where her husband was stationed. After leaving the military, they felt like the Lord called them to Texas so that Kassidy could finish her midwifery degree requirements at Journey Birth Center. She enjoys snowboarding, playing soccer competitively, hiking, riding horses, and spending time outdoors with her family. Kassidy looks forward to continuing educating and serving women through their pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum as a midwife.

Student Midwives & Birth Assistants

Birth Assisstant

Rachel is a mother of four and has been married to her husband for 15 years. She began her work in the birth world in 2015 after the birth of her second son. When her birth didn’t go as planned due to lack of support, she determined that no mother should be unsupported during the important time of giving birth. This began her career as a Doula. Shortly thereafter, she expanded to teaching childbirth education and would eventually cross paths with Journey Birth Center. For the next 3 years she taught and assisted at the birth center. Following a short break, she is back at the Conroe birth center and is so excited to continue as an assistant and supporting families as they grow their families.

Birth Assistant

Maddie has always loved the beauty and intricacy of birth. She attended two and a half years of Nursing school at Lee University in Tennessee with every intent on graduating and going straight into working in the birth world. However, after many hours in the hospital doing clinicals in the mother/baby and labor and delivery units, she realized the hospital setting was not for her. Maddie fell in love with the holiness of birth, but there was so much more she wanted to give. She wanted freedom for moms to let their birth story be what they wanted. She wanted to get to walk alongside them in their birth story and not just pop in every once in a while to check vitals. She wanted labor to be intimate and intentional. She wanted so much more. Since then, Maddie changed her path and moved to Texas to pursue being a doula and a birth assistant, where she gets to do and experience everything her heart has always desired and use the training she received as knowledge and tools to better serve and love.

Student Midwife

Hailey has been drawn to the miracle of birth as long as she can remember. As the oldest of 5 children, she appointed herself a pseudo momma at a very young age and loved every minute of it. She graduated from Mississippi College in 2015 with a Bachelors of Science in Communication and a minor in Psychology. In college she spent time in Haiti leading teams and volunteering with different village clinics including a maternity home which only increased her belief in the brave strength found in every woman. Hailey is a certified doula through Birth Boot Camp and also maintains Neonatal Resuscitation Certification. She has attended births at homes, birth centers, as well as hospitals and says it continues to be an absolute honor and privilege to be a part of such holy experiences. When not attending births, Hailey often spends her time with busy hands writing, baking, arranging flowers, and planning for her summers on leadership at Beloved and Beyond– a camp for children/adults with special needs.

Student Midwife

Tori’s interest in women’s healthcare began as a child, but it didn’t became a passion for her until the birth of her first baby in 2012. Her birthing experience catapulted her inquisitive nature into researching about autonomy, consent and respect in women’s healthcare. She then chose the loving care of birth center CPM midwives in 2015 for her next birth. After her birth center birth, Tori began training as a birth assistant and earned her NRP and BLS certifications. She is also a certified doula, who has worked in all birth settings. After experiencing the two pregnancy losses, Tori then became a certified bereavement doula, supporting families in all settings. While being beautifully supported during the birth of her rainbow twins in 2019, Tori knew that God was also calling her to midwifery. She is now a student at Mercy In Action College of Midwifery, where she is pursuing her midwifery degree.

Tori is married to Joel, a Marine Corps and Army veteran who now works from home to support Tori’s calling to serve women and their families through midwifery. With 5 incredible children earthside (the youngest four all being born out of hospital with midwives), Tori has personally experienced the difference that quality midwifery care can make. She strives to provide the same life changing support to others that she has received from her own midwives. Tori’s favorite part of midwifery is the honor that is held for the sacredness of birth, through respect of every family, their autonomy and informed consent.

Childbirth Class Instructor

Hunter Clayburn is a follower of Jesus, a wife, a mom to three amazing children, a homeschool teacher, and a supporter of women in birth. She became a doula in Denver, CO in 2013 following the birth of her second child. Later, her family moved to Houston where she continued her birth worker journey. In 2015, she became a trained midwives’ assistant. Hunter loves supporting women as they begin and grow their families. She loves encouraging women that “this is hard but you can do this” versus the often repeated “you can’t do birth, it’s too hard”. Knowing that when families begin this new stage with encouragement and support, they bond easier and feel more capable when there are hard moments in their parenting journeys.
